2025 Funny Bone
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Funny Bone friendraiser on June 28th at The Candlelight Theatre. We appreciate Rockford Center, MeadowWood Behavioral Health Hospital, Claire Boston, First State Alliance of Recovery Residences, WSFS Bank and Lisa Thornton for sponsoring our event. Thank you to all those who made the evening happen: our fabulous comics, Belynda Cleare along with Nancy Burkett and Major Johnson, the non- stop hors d’oeuvres and pastries provided by Candlelight, our generous sponsors, our exhibitors, and last but not least, our lively audience. We look forward to more laughter and fun next year at Funny Bone 2026!
2025 E-Racing the Blues Walks
Our Glasgow and Rehoboth walks have wrapped up, and we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome! From tai chi and smoothie samples in Glasgow to a high-energy Zumba warm-up in Rehoboth — plus raffle prizes, exhibitors, refreshments, and beautiful weather — both events were a great success. Thanks to your incredible support, we raised $25,000 to help support our mental health and suicide prevention trainings and future events. This achievement was only possible because of YOU — our walkers, donors, sponsors, volunteers, exhibitors, speakers, and everyone who helped spread the word.
2024 Funny Bone
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Funny Bone friendraiser on April 26th at The Candlelight Theatre. We appreciate GOLO and Delaware Orthopaedic Specialists for sponsoring our event. A good time was had by all as our MC, Belynda Criddell, and two comedians, Jess Carpenter and Madinah Wilson-Anton had us laughing nonstop. We enjoyed dessert, a beverage bar, the beach house raffle, a gift basket raffle and each other’s company, while realizing the value of laughter, and supporting MHA’s mission of strengthening knowledge, resources and support around mental health and recovery. Hope to see you next year!
2024 Kickin’ the Stigma Out of Mental Illness
On October 20th, MHA held its second annual Kickin’ the Stigma Out of Mental Health, a kickball tournament at Big Oak Country Park in Smyrna, DE, led by our outstanding volunteers, Marissa Bennici and Keely Arndt. We were blessed with the most beautiful autumn day, filled with sunshine, colorful leaves, enthusiasm and the aroma of Carl’s Gourmet Hots & Sandwiches! We are proud to announce that this event raised over $3,500 (three times as much as our first event last year) to promote improved mental well-being for all individuals and their families in DE through education, support and advocacy. We’ve grown from 36 players to 106 who registered for yesterday’s tournament! May we continue to grow together in our ability to kick the stigma!
2024 Target Circle Giving Program
MHA is feeling proud and thankful for the community engagement with our Target Circle Giving program. Thanks to all who participated, we received 178,326 votes in support of our mission to strengthen knowledge, resources and support around mental health and recovery. Target has generously awarded MHA $3,509.40 based on these votes, which came from a larger pool of funds donated from Target to nonprofits in the community. A heartfelt thank you to both our voters and Target. We hope to continue this partnership.
2024 Every Brilliant Thing
Thank you, Delaware Theatre Company, for partnering with us to allow so many of our constituents to attend a complimentary performance on October 22nd, 2024 of Every Brilliant Thing, a story of a man’s accounting for little joys in life growing up to help him through his depression. We appreciate your recognition of how theater connects us to one another to promote mental wellness.
2024 Annual One Mile An Hour
MHA is feeling thankful for Andrew Shearer and his family for partnering with us again for a very successful 7th Annual One Mile an Hour event on June 14th-15th. Approximately 45 high school and college students registered to spend the night in their tents at Appoquinimink High School in order to walk/run one mile at the top of every hour for 24 hours. Lots of other children, teen and adult drop in walkers came throughout the event to walk or run a mile, to help generate awareness for our suicide prevention initiative. A total of 901 miles were walked/ran during the 24 -hour period and approximately $6,000 was raised- bravo!! A heartfelt thanks to all the participants, donors, sponsors and of course, our fearless leader, Andrew, for another job well done!
2024 E-Racing the Blues Walks
Thanks to all those who supported our E-Racing the Blues Walks for Mental Health by walking, donating, sponsoring, forming teams and exhibiting. We had a total of 117 participants combined for our E-Racing north and south walk, and we have collectively raised over $25,000 to support our mental health and suicide prevention programs in the community. A big shout out to our 28 sponsors, 9 teams and our yoga and tai chi warm up instructors. We were fortunate to have two fun filled sunny mornings to spread the word that MHA is here to support those in need of resources and support around mental health recovery. We look forward to doing this again next year, and hope you will all be back with us, growing and evolving as we go.
